Letter from Our Founder

December 31, 2011

Dear Fellow Conservatives,

Nearly a year ago, a small group of longtime conservatives gathered together in Dallas, Texas, to discuss the then upcoming Republican Presidential nomination process. Our initial goal was to reach a consensus as to the core conservative principles our Republican presidential nominee should stand for and, if possible, to identify and support such a candidate for President. Some of us had worked for President Ronald Reagan, and all of those who gathered together were disappointed in what had happened to our conservative movement and the Republican Party in the post-Reagan period of American politics.

We continued to meet and formed an organization called the Americans for a Conservative President (ACP) to influence the process. ACP set forth a Statement of Principles. But, we were never able to reach a consensus when it came to getting behind a particular conservative candidate for President. So, we focused more of our efforts on informing those who had signed on with ACP of the various positions that the candidates were taking and how they compared to one another.

Shortly, the 2012 primary election process will begin, and Republican primary voters will decide who the Republican presidential nominee will be. The good news is that all of the major contenders for the nomination are running as conservatives. The bad news is that there remains a real uncertainty as to whether the ultimate Republican nominee and--potentially--the next President will be the kind of authentic conservative who can rebuild a conservative majority and bring Americans together behind our founding Constitutional principles.

Hopefully, our web site has provided you with a policy framework that will help you make your choice. That said, it is now time to close down Americans for a Conservative President and for us as conservatives to chart our own individual course for 2012--and beyond.

Rest assured that those of us who established ACP intend to remain in the fight for our conservative principles. It is my wish that we will be able to work together in the future where we will have a better opportunity to influence the future direction of our nation for the sake of our children and grandchildren.

Thank you for taking the time to engage in this endeavor with us, and God Bless America.

Faithfully,

Tom Pauken

Chairman, Americans for a Conservative President
